The United Nations

It's well past time to get the US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US. This is one of the worst organizations I can imagine in the world. They have just gone as far as to make Libya, and their leader Quadafi (seen many spellings of his name, pick your favorite and insert if you don't like mine) as the head of the UN commission on human rights. Libya sponsored allot of terrorism in the 70's and 80's, up until President Reagan decided that he'd had enough of it and bombed them. There where only three votes against this move, The US, Canada, and Guatemala. The Europeans decided that they'd just abstain, and not even vote on it. The human rights commission says nothing about countries like Cuba, or Rwanda, but they have plenty to say about (against) Israel and the US.
The UN has stated before that the streets of New York, and the United States in general are among the most dangerous in the world, and that we should have UN peace keepers patrolling the streets in this country. If these diplomats think it's so dangerous in NYC maybe they'd like it if we moved the UN headquarters to somewhere like Rio De Janeiro, Cape Town, or Bogotá. Just in case you don't know, the countries that these cities are in have some of the highest crime rates in the world. Especially robbery (Brazil), kidnapping (Columbia) and murder (South Africa). To put it in perspective, and I believe these stats are from the 80's (although I couldn't find confirmation on the dates) the international murder rate (murders per 100,000) was 5.5, the US had a murder rate of 9, the UK 2, Columbia 41, and South Africa 45.
I couldn't find Brazil's murder rate for the time. That's a hell of allot more dangerous than the streets in the US. I've heard reports that as many as 30,000 people are kidnapped in Columbia every year, most for ransom, and not all are drug dealers.
The UN will do anything they can in order to attempt to make Israel look bad, they claim all kinds of human rights violations are happening there. They overlook that fact that the Palestinians are blowing themselves up in order to kill as many Israelis as they possibly can. When Israel responds to these attacks, it's them who are the bad guys. I love some of the tactics that they use to attempt to curb their problem with terrorism. If you blow yourself up, they're coming to your house, with a armored bull dozer. When they get there, they're going to use that bulldozer to bring your house down. That way, not only has your family just lost you, they're also losing their home. It would seem that this would be looked at as the common sense way to do things, but not to the UN, they feel that it's wrong and that Israel should be chastised for doing it.
The UN has set up a new "world court" that they think they'll be able to prosecute Americans in for alleged human rights violations. This means that any solider or civilian, who commits what the UN considers to be a crime, could be tried in this court. They could arrest a solider that messed up on the field of battle, and committed an act of fratricide. Even if it wasn't that soldier's fault, that doesn't mean that they would be safe from prosecution. They could theoretically attempt to arrest me for even writing this, considering that the world court, and the UN don't observe the United States' 1st amendment. If they get their way, they'll have jurisdiction over everyone they want too.
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, along with French President Jacques Chirac, have just recently said that it would be illegal for anyone to invade Iraq without the "go ahead" from the UN. Just like Germany got the OK from the rest of the world when they rode the autobahn into Poland to start their attempt to rule the world. Or how they did the same thing to France, who cheered them as the Nazis rolled into Paris, then cheered the US as we kicked them out of their country. On to more modern times, sorry about that. Germany and France are trying to tell the USA what to do, thinking that the threat will work. The USA, UK, Australia, and other nations are prepared to disarm Iraq, and to kick Saddam Hussein out of office. This needs to be done for the good of the world, not just for oil. If it was all about oil then we would be going into Argentina to stabilize it there too. Argentina is a member of OPEC, and a very large oil producer. Even though they do have a fairly unstable person in charge down there. For the UN to go back on what they said (Germany and France included) they show exactly how spineless they really are.
The UN is little more than a large group of cowards that talks allot, but doesn't do much more. They've passed many resolutions concerning nations like Iraq and that they must get rid of their weapons of mass destruction, and they must stop trying to obtain or develop new WMD. Every time they tell Iraq this, it's just talk, they never have any intention of doing anything about it when it's proven that Saddam is in total violation of the resolutions that they've passed, they give him a pass and they don't do anything about it. The security council just recently passed yet another resolution telling Saddam that he must disarm, yet the same members that passed it, are dead set against doing anything about him violating the resolution they just passed. Once again proving that they're all just talk, the US is forced to take the lead in making sure that the world is safe, only problem is that if we do, we get criticized for doing it, and if we don't we get criticized for not doing anything.
